Our new software engineer makes programmes work with his gentle voice
In which function do you work at linkyard and how will your work look like?
linkyard is expanding and trying to satisfy its customers from all sides. This includes developing new products for them and adapting the software to their needs. This is where I come in as a software engineer to make this happen. linkyard crossed country and language borders to hire me, and I'm really glad they did.
My current role in the company is to work on Atlassian applications and adapt them to the needs of the customers. I pretty much sit behind my computer all day trying to convince said applications to behave the way I want them to behave, in the softest, smoothest voice I can muster.
Describe your background.
I'm not interested in dropping company names here and listing projects I've worked on. You can read about that in my CV and LinkedIn profile. Instead, I will briefly talk about the driving force behind my career.
I am a developer at heart. I like making machines do things for us. Especially when those things are very repetitive and boring. I'd rather spend extra time automating tasks than being bored while doing them over and over and over again. This mentality set me on the path to studying computer science and becoming a backend developer. Since then, I have spent the last decade honing my skills on various projects across Central Europe. Not one to shy away from a challenge, my tasks have encompassed a variety of different areas: from system administration to various middleware applications to frontend and web design; this makes me a versatile full-stack developer. And I continue to learn and improve my skills every day. Computers are fascinating in every way, and I try my best to learn as much as I can about them. After all, they are nothing more than minerals that we have infused with lightning and enabled to think.
How would you describe yourself in one sentence?
I am an easy-going person with a penchant for learning new and unfamiliar things, having interesting discussions and meeting new people while making them feel relaxed in my presence with some tasty jokes and interesting anecdotes, keeping my work on software projects or activities in various fields professional, detail-oriented and well-documented to be able to deliver high-quality software products and solutions that I am personally very proud of, while taking time to enjoy the little things in life like hiking, playing with my cat and pushing the boundaries of what it means to describe yourself in just one sentence.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I am very interested in software development, which often affects my free time. I work on various projects and hobbies, sometimes so much that I neglect sleep. Still, I need a break every now and then, and weekly I roam through nature, visiting steep Swiss hills, charismatic old towns and beautiful clear lakes.
Why is water wet?
Because fish pee in it. :)
